Thu Feb 12, 2009, 5:40 PM
so the teaching journey more or less officially began today. i dropped my name at a few bead stores around the cities and two of them seemed really interested, and the one i was most excited about, which is located in the mall of america, proposed i teach a class there near the end of march- I'm super excited.

Do you have access to a wide range of ring sizes available to you? If you plan to do something like my designs, a 9mm stone will require precise ring sizes in order to make it secure without glue. It's sort of a trade off: the larger gauge rings you use, the more precise their size has to be. If you were to do it in say 24g instead of 20g you wouldn't have to worry so much about each ring's size, though you have to weave more of them. Expect to get it wrong at least twice before you find a size that works, but if you're persistent you'll be rewarded with a beautiful piece.

For proprietary reasons I won't tell you the exact sizes that I'm using, but 22g wire will be your best bet. 20g will drive you mad trying to get the right ring size, and 24g is just too weak in my opinion to hold a stone of any value. Good luck!

yeah i was kinda working between 22g and 24g... im not exactly sure yet. but i do have a rather wide selection, so it should work out in the end, i just need to sit down and mess around with. i also have a bunch of identical CZ im gonna practice with
